Police invite Leadership editor, reporters
The Police have invited three editorial employees of the Leadership newspaper over a story entitled, ‘Outrage trails presidential directive on Tinubu, APC’ published on the April 3, 2013 edition of the newspaper.
The three, who jointly wrote the story and invited by the police, included the Group News Editor of the newspaper, Mr. Tony Amokeodo.
Others are the Abuja and Lagos correspondents of the newspapers – Chibuzor Ukaibe and Taiwo Ogunmola-Omilani, respectively.
The police, through a letter dated April 7, 2013, said the invitation was for the three journalists to interview the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (Admin), ‘D’ Department, Force Criminal Investigation Department , Abuja.
By the letter, which was signed by a Deputy Commissioner of Police (Admin) in Abuja, Danmallam Mohammed, the three journalists are being expected at the office of the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, ‘D’ Department, FCID in Abuja by 10am on Monday (today).
The letter titled, ‘Investigation activities: Police invitation’ and with reference number CR: 3000/x/FHQ/ABJ/Vol.149/34 was addressed to the Chairman of the newspaper’s publishing firm, Leadership Group Limited.
The letter read, “This office is investigating the circumstances leading to your front page publication titled: ‘Outrage trail presidential directive on Tinubu, APC’ and a sub-title captioned ‘bromide of the presidential directive.’
“The publication, which featured in your Wednesday, April 3, 2013 edition, was reported by Messrs Tony Amokeodo, Chibuzor Ukaibe and Taiwo Ogunmola-Omilani.”
“Based on our facts finding efforts, you are hereby requested to release the above mentioned reporters to interview the Deputy Inspector General of Police, D’ Department, FCID on Monday, April 8, 2013 at 1000hrs through the undersigned.”
