Confusion over Kwankwoso‘s Presidential Ambition: Tambuwal connection

Rumours over alleged presidential ambition of Kano State governor, Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso took a new turn over the weekend following conflicting reports about a statement credited to the governor while on a condolence visit to Borno State. The yet-to-be-denied presidential ambition of the House Speaker, Aminu Tambuwal is reported to be a factor heating up the political camp of the Kano chief Executive.

An online news medium had reported that the Kano governor hinted of his readiness to enter the 2015 race with announcement expected in due course. The governor was said to have made the remarks while fielding questions from reporters at Borno Government House.

Less than twenty four hours after, the government of Kano state issued a strongly worded denial, declaring that the governor said nothing of such during his visit to Borno on the Baga incident.

The statement signed by Kano Director of Press to the Governor,Mallam Haliru Baba Dantiye stated that any report in that line is “ a misrepresentation of fact as the governor never made any statement that suggested that he intended to contest the presidency of this country come 2015.

It would be recalled that since last year many leaders of the Kwankwasiya group of the governor have been mounting pressure on him to join the presidential race. Some leaders of the group have even moved ahead to produce posters which they posted on social networks.

While reports indicated that the governor may not have directed such campaigns, feelers from the ancient city of Kano showed that it is only a matter of time before the governor will join the race for Aso Rock.

According to checks by Sunday Tribune, hardline elements within the Kwankwasiya group are said to be insistent that the governor having served at all levels of government should seek the presidency after the expiration of his tenure in 2015.

The surreptitious moves by the House Speaker,Aminu Tambuwal to enter the race was said to be fuelling the pressure on the governor to also seek the highest office in the land. The Kwankwasiya leaders outside government are said to be arguing that Kano governor rather than the speaker has the best qualifications to lead the north into this battle.

A member of the group who craves anonymity said the House Speaker is not tested enough to fly the presidential banner, adding “our governor was a deputy speaker, a minister and now a two time governor“
