This is to bring to your notice the behaviour of officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) stationed at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) junction Bus Stop Road, Yaba, Lagos.
On Thursday, May 2, 2013 at about 11.00am, l was driving towards UNILAG for the annual general meeting of the Nigeria Medical Association holding at UNILAG and suddenly I saw a road sign with the inscription: Do not enter.
There was no arrow to indicate which of the roads one should not enter, either the road straight ahead or the one to the right. I drove straight and immediately four LASTMA officers came out from their hide out to arrest me and took me to their office behind Adekunle Police Station in Yaba.
I was harassed and threatened that l needed to go for psychiatric examination. My car was impounded and I had to pay a sum of N25,000 which they collected from me unreceipted.
The message here is that the LASTMA officers should remove the vague directional arrow from the road sign so that they will not continue to make illegal money from motorists. Please, this need to be investigated with a viewing to stopping this illegality and saving innocent Nigerians.
