Man,42, in court for selling land with fake documents

The Police on Tuesday, arraigned Sani Ibrahim, 42, of Mararaba, Nasarawa State, before an Abuja Senior Magistrates’ Court for allegedly using forged document to sell a plot of land to one Moses Erih.

The police prosecutor, Sergent Abuh Okpanachi, told the court that the accused conspired with Emediong Akpan and Ibrahim Alhassan to commit the crime.

According to him, Akpan and Alhassan are currently serving jail terms in Keffi prison for another offence.


He said the alleged sale of the land was reported at the Area Command Metro Office in Maitama, Abuja, on April 17.

Okpanachi said the accused connived with Akpan and Alhassan to forge a document for the land located at Abacha Road, Mararaba, Nasarawa State, and sold it for N6 million to Erih on April 10.

He said that during the police investigation, it was discovered that the accused person deceived the complainant by telling him that the land belonged to Alhaji Baba and Surajo who are now at large.

The prosecutor said the accused collected N4 million from Erih in part payment which he shared within his colleagues.

He added that the accused thereby committed criminal conspiracy, breach of trust, forgery, cheating and giving of false information contrary to sections 79, 312, 364, 322 and 178 of the Penal Code.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Senior magistrate, Anthony Ogboi, granted the accused bail in the sum of N500, 000 with a surety in the like sum who must be resident within the jurisdiction of the court.

He also ordered that both the accused and the surety must deposit their passport photograph with the court registry, and adjourned the matter till May 24.
