CNN founder Ted Turner hospitalized in Argentina

AFP—Ted Turner, the CNN founder and American media tycoon turned philanthropist, was hospitalized during a trip to Argentina, a medical source said Friday, with reports suggesting he could have appendicitis.

A source at a private clinic in Bariloche, a tourist destination where Turner was admitted, confirmed to AFP that the 75-year-old, who owns property in the Argentine province of Neuquen, later discharged himself.

News websites said the billionaire may have flown on to Buenos Aires to continue his treatment for an abdominal condition or appendicitis, but those reports were not officially confirmed.

Turner’s spokesman, Phillip Evans, told AFP that the CNN founder was admitted to hospital for observation.

“Given it is our policy not to comment on his personal health, no further details will be provided,” the spokesman added.

Turner has a large rural estate in Neuquen, which is located in Argentina’s Patagonia region.
