This tragedy followed a series of attacks launched by terrorists within 2 deadly weeks in Borno and Yobe states and having taken hundreds of lives.

According to various resources, who spoke with The Nation, the insurgents arrived at about 9:30-10pm Monday with explosives and petrol-bombs, chanting “God is great” in Arabic, and shooting sporadically. After which they reportedly had been setting the property on fire and shooting for 3 hours.

One of the residents confirmed the death of 35 people, adding that more victims are expected as some people were trapped in their houses when the insurgents unleashed havoc on both lives and property.

Meanwhile many villagers managed to flee in the bushes and survive, some of them trekked to Maiduguri for safety, and others are taking refuge in the neighbouring villages.

Borno Police Commissioner Mr. Lawal Tanko confirmed the incident without giving the exact number of casualties.
