The Supreme Court yesterday ordered two senators on the platform of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in Katsina State to vacate office.
They are Abdu Yandoma (Katsina North) and Ahmed Sani Stores (Katsina Central).
Also affected are eight House of Representatives members.
The apex court held that they were not the duly sponsored candidates of the party.
Besides, it held that the Federal High Court which affirmed the nomination of the appellants lacked the jurisdiction to entertain the suit.
Justice Walter Onnoghen, in the judgment, said the Federal High Court should have struck out the suit because issues raised were purely domestic affairs of the party.
He held that political parties must duly sponsor a candidate for an election.
The affected candidates are to vacate for the duly sponsored candidates of the CPC in Katsina State.
The beneficiaries are Sadiq Yar’Adua (Central Senatorial District), Hadi Sirika (North Senatorial District), Ahmed Kaita (Kankia/Ingawa Federal Constituency) and Salisu Salisco (Kaita/Jibiya).
Also to go to the House of Representatives are Sheik Umar Abubakar (Katsina), Salisu Daura (Daura/Maiaduwa/Sandamu), Isa Doro (Mani/Bindawa), Sani Mashi (Mashi/Dutsi), Abbas Machika (Kankara/Faskari/Sabuwa) and Dr. Mansur Funtua (Funtua/Dandume).
