DETERMINED to ensure the security of lives and property, the Kano State government has earmarked over N12 million for the purchase of modern communication gadgets and the setting up of container observation posts in strategic locations across the state. Disclosing this on Thursday in Kano, the state’s Commissioner for Information, Internal Affairs, Youth, Sports and Culture, Professor Umar Faruk Jibril, at a news briefing after yesterday’s executive council meeting, the 30th such meeting of the present Kano State government, presided over by Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Prof. Jibril also stated that the council, at its sitting, also approved the Neighbourhood Watch Vigilante Security Group Bill for onward submission to the state House of Assembly.
According to him, the Neighbourhood Vigilante Group is to assist in cultivating and sustaining discipline and reducing crimes in the state.
He further added the council had also agreed to provide over N9 million for the purchase and provision of raw materials for the state’s agricultural supply company (KASCO) as a loan to enable the company resume production of livestock feeds.
The commissioner added that the council equally set aside N83 million for the construction of new hostel blocks at the Kano Fishery Institute, Bagauda along with six toilets with a view to accommodating more students.
