Gov. Peter Obi of Anambra has joined billions of people throughout the world to congratulate the new pope, Francis1. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that His Holiness, Pope Francis 1, formerly Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, emerged the new pope on Wednesday at the Vatican after two days of intensive conclave papal election.
The governor’s message is contained in a statement issued to newsmen by his Special Adviser on Media, Mr Valentine Obienyam, in Onitsha on Thursday.
Obi described the emergence of the new pope “as the continuation of the fulfilment of Christ to his Church and the triumph of a process which Nigerians should draw a lesson from.
“The lesson is that, the process of being elected into any position is far more fundamental than what the person elected does thereafter."
The governor called on everybody to join the Church in prayers for the great task ahead of the new pope, describing him, “as a deeply-intellectual and religious leader.
``He did very well as Bishop of Buenos Aires and will most certainly do well as the Pope with the support of our prayers,’’ Obi added.(NAN)
