Tension In Enugu As IMT Student Kills Security Guard


There was palpable tension in Enugu yesterday following the murder of a security officer working with the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) by a yet-to-be-identified student of the institution. It was gathered that the incident happened while the Science Laboratory Technology Department was conducting its election.An eyewitness said the victim, identified as Festus Ugwu, who was officially assigned by the authorities of the school to the venue of the election to ensure its peaceful conduct was hit with a hard object while he was attempting to settle a heated argument among the students during the election.

He was said to have collapsed shortly afterwards and was rushed to the Memfy’s Neurosurgery International Hospital, Trans-Ekulu, Enugu where he died.

The security officer, who hailed from Opi in Nsukka local government area of the state was said to be in his late 30s.

The rector of the institute, Prof Mike Iloeje, who confirmed the death of the security officer, described it as regrettable, and confirmed that the security man had been officially assigned to the venue of the election to maintain peace and order.

Meanwhile, the Enugu State Police command said yesterday that it had commenced a full scale investigations into the incident.
