Kano State Police Command on Tuesday night recovered Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), guns and ammunitions that were to be used by insurgents to "cause havoc and destabilize peace" in the state, commissioner of police in the state, Musa Daura said yesterday. The commissioner, who was addressing press conference at the state police command headquarters in Bompai area, said the recovery was made around 2130 hours after the police had received information about a suspicious vehicle.
"Based on the tip off, our men intercepted a Golf 3 motor vehicle with registration number AG701KTN at the outskirts of Kano," he said.

He said occupants of the car had opened fire on sighting the police, following which officers responded with superior fire power which made the suspects to abandon the vehicle and escape with gunshot wounds.

He said 14 homemade grenades, nine remote controlled IEDs, two rifles, one fabricated rocket launcher, 238 rounds of different calibre of ammunitions, four rolls of wire connector and 12 power source were found concealed in the vehicle.

The police further noted that some of the arsenals were hidden in the vehicle's roof, so as to beat security checks.
