NGF Election - 'PDP Will Lose in 2015 Election'

As Nigeria marks another democracy day, the Bauchi State chapter of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) has described the crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a bad omen for the party, saying there was no way the party will win the 2015 election with a divided house.

The party noted that the present leadership tussle within the Nigerian Governors' Forum (NGF), has created disunity within the ranks of the 36 state governors, which is unhealthy for the development of the country.

The state ACN chairman, Alhaji Bappa Daffida, who made this known in an interview with journalists wednesday in Bauchi, lamented that the PDP within its 14 years of democratic rule have nothing to show for, except operating an authoritarian government, where the views of the masses were not respected.

He said: "I think the end has come for the PDP, judging from what happened in the NGF election. It is very disheartening and embarrassing that governors of the 36 states cannot conduct a simple election. Why should governors who are leaders in their states dispute the outcome of an election that was conducted free and fair. I wonder what kind of example these governors are setting for our future leaders. We have been saying corruption is the problem in this country, but how can we eradicate corruption when our leaders are infested with corruption."

The ACN chairman stressed that the suspension of Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State from the party because of his alleged acts of indiscipline had shown that the PDP had no interest for its members, which invariably fosters disharmony and cross-carpeting within political parties.

"I see a party that has no mercy and compassion for its members. Is it wrong for Ameachi to win an election? The election was conducted free and fair and he got the highest votes, so why is he being persecuted simply because he is not the candidate of Mr. President? It is very glaring for all to see that President Jonathan sees Amaechi as a threat to his 2015 presidential ambition, so he is trying to frustrate him, but it is so unfortunate because the President this time around has made the wrong move," he said.

Bappa, however, called for the scrapping of the NGF from the constitution, saying its establishment had made the governors insensitive to development of their respective states.
