Police Call On South–East Governors To Raise Trust Fund To Fight Crime



The Assistant Inspector General of Police Zone 9, Tambari Mohammad has called on governors in the south eastern part of Nigeria to assist the Police in combating the issues of kidnapping and armed robbery which he said is rampant in the region. Mr Mohammad, the newly deployed AIG made the call at the Government house in Owerri during a scheduled courtesy visit to the Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha.

He called on all the governors in the South East to come together to intensify efforts and increase support for the Nigerian Police in order to fight the ugly menace of kidnapping and armed robbery that has become rampant in the major cities of the South East.

He suggested that the South east Governors initiate a special trust fund for the Police which will enable not only the government but individuals and well-meaning Nigerians donate some amount of funds.

He said that the fund will be used to procure necessary logistics and equipments to enable the Police in the region combat kidnapping and armed robbery in its entirety.

He noted that progress and success of any state is hinged on security therefore all the leaders in various states must collectively support the police to deliver a peaceful and safe state for its citizenry.

Meanwhile, the Imo state Governor commended the Imo state police command and Zone 9 for the tireless effort being exerted in ensuring that Imo state and the entire south east is free of kidnapping and armed robbery. He said his administration will do everything to support the police and ensure that everything is done to safeguard the lives and property of Imo citizens so as to also open up the economy of the state foreign investors.
