Vigilante sentenced to Four Months in Prison for Assault

An Upper Area Court in Zuba, FCT, on Friday sentenced a member of a vigilance group, Idris Aloma, 35, to four months and 21 days in prison for slapping his friend’s younger brother.

Aloma, who resides in Ungwan Hausawa-Tunga Maje, FCT, is arraigned for assault. The presiding Judge, Malam Aminu Sa’ad, sentenced Aloma after he pleaded guilty to the one count charge of assault.

Sa’ad, however, gave the convict an option of N23,000 fine.

He also ordered Aloma to pay N4,000 as compensation to the nominal complainant.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Haruna Danlami told the court that on March 23, the convict slapped one Musa Danjuma of the same address.

Danlami said the convict slapped Danjuma because he had a misunderstanding with his brother.

The prosecutor also told the court that following the slap, the complainant suffered severe throat pain and was taken to

Nasara Clinic, where he was treated.

He said that the complainant paid N4,000 to get treatment.

The prosecutor told the court that the offence contravened the Penal Code.
