FOUR suspected pipeline vandals have been arrested in Ibadan, Oyo State, by men of the state police command. The state Commissioner of Police, Mallam Tambari Yabo Muhammed, made the disclosure in his maiden press briefing in Ibadan on Tuesday, adding that four trucks with 132,000 litres of fuel were impounded.He said the suspected vandals had, on March 17, vandalised the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) pipeline in Oluyole Local Government Area of the state and were arrested with the loaded product.
According to him, immediately the information got to the command, policemen, led by the officer in-charge of anti-pipeline vandalism, were drafted to the scene.
The police boss said four persons were arrested while four trucks loaded with petrol were impounded.
He gave the names of the suspects as Saheed Omotoso (33), Abdullahi Alli (30), Babaye Garuba (28) and Johnson Oloyede (36).
Meanwhile, the police commissioner has read the riot act to policemen in the state, saying that anybody found wanting would be shown the way out.
He declared that the command would not tolerate any act of indiscipline.
He said the command was determined to reduce the rate of crime in the state and as a
result, it had put in place measures aimed at curbing the activities of the criminals.
To this end, he said policemen had been deployed in certain areas of the state.
He then called on the people and the state government to give them the necessary support.
