AS a way of reducing the rate of crime in Ogun State, the management of Ecobank Plc has donated N75million to the state’s Security Trust Fund. The chairman of the bank, Olorogun Sunny Kuku, presented the cheque to the state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, when the management of the bank paid him a courtesy call in Abeokuta.
Olorogun Kuku said the bank was contributing its quota towards tackling the security challenges and promoting development of the state.
Responding, Senator Amosun, disclosed that about N4 billion had been spent on security by the state in order to provide an enabling environment for business to thrive.
He stated that government attached great importance to the security of life and property of its citizens, hence its massive investments in the purchase of patrol vans equipped with communication gadgets and state-of-the-art Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs).
He further said that his administration invested in such expensive APCs in order to protect the lives of “our security personnel as well.”
While commending the cooperation of the Federal Government in facilitating the collection of the clearance papers needed before the APCs could be put to use in the state, the governor lauded the financial institution for contributing to the Security Trust Fund.
It will be recalled that the Senator Amosun-led administration had, last year, set up the Security Trust Fund and inaugurated the Joint Military/Police Task Force in order to give individuals and groups opportunities to maximise their potentials and assure investors of a secure business environment in the state.
