THE chairmanship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the national convention slated for Saturday, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, in Abuja, on Wednesday, debunked the allegations that he was suspended from the party.In a statement, counsel for his campaign organisation, Chief Johnny Ucheaga, challenged those claiming that Tukur was expelled to produce evidence of his suspension from the party.
He also those making the allegation were being sponsored by an ambitious politician, who did not wish the party well because of his selfish interest.
It will be recalled that a member of the party, Mr Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, had dragged the party and Tukur to a Federal High Court in Lagos to challenge his eligibility.
Meanwhile, ahead of the convention, the acting national chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje, has inaugurated a 75-man national convention planning committee, headed by former Foreign Affairs minister, Chief Ojo Maduekwe.
Speaking during the ceremony at the national secretariat of the party in Abuja, on Wednesday, Baraje said though the party encouraged the emergence of candidates through consensus, the committee must conduct a free, fair and credible election, in line with the position of one man one vote of the administration.
Baraje disclosed that the committees, which conducted Wednesday’s zonal congresses, were also instructed to ensure that delegates at the venue were allowed to exercise their franchise.
He congratulated members of the committee which, he said, cut across the six geopolitical zones of the country, adding that they were selected based on their contributions to the growth of the party and the country.
In his remarks, the chairman of the committee, Maduekwe, assured that in view of the standing of the members of the committee, none of them could be pressured to do the wrong thing.
