Jonathan Cautions Varsities On Dispatch Of Certificates

ANY institution, whose certificates are not ready for collection by graduands, should not hold convocation, says President Jonathan. Jonathan said this while commending the Vice Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Prof. Vincent Tenebe, at the 2nd convocation ceremony of the institution where 7, 220 persons received certificates and prizes.

Tenebe had earlier in his address announced that the certificates of all the graduands were ready for collection at the convocation ground, at the National Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos.

Delaying certificates after convocation, the president said, is no longer tolerable as the administration is working towards its Transformation Agenda. The era of graduates waiting for two or three years before collecting their certificates, he said, should become history.

Jonathan was represented by the Minister of Education, Prof. Ruquayyatu Ahmed Rufai.

“I want to commend NOUN for issuing certificates to all the graduands at this venue. Delay of certificates after convocation is no longer tolerable. Graduands of various institutions of learning are meant to collect their certificates upon graduation. Henceforth, any institution, whose certificates are not ready for collection by graduands, should not hold convocation. No certificates, no convocation,” he said.

He urged the graduands to be self-reliant.
