9 More Killed In Plateau


Nine more people were yesterday confirmed killed in Ratas village in Fan district of Barkin local government area of Plateau State. Acting spokesman of the Special Task Force (STF) in the state told LEADERSHIP Weekend in Jos yesterday that the attackers took advantage of the massive deployment of its personnel to Bokkos to swoop on the villagers, and killed the victims.He said that upon hearing the report, men of the STF stormed the area, following which the attackers fled, adding that task force operatives took those who sustained injuries to hospital for treatment.

The chairman, Management Committee of Barkin Ladi local government, Hon. Emmanuel Lohman, who also confirmed the killing shortly after attending mass burial of the deceased, said the same Fulani who attacked Bokkos struck in Ratas while escaping.

He also raised the alarm over the movement of suspected Fulani militia in Gashish area of the local government, adding that if nothing was done as soon as possible, the Fulani militias would unleash another deadly blow on the people of the area.

Meanwhile, commissioner of police, Plateau State, Chris Olakpe, said normalcy had returned to the troubled villages of Mangor and Mantol in Bokkos local government area, where 20 people were killed in a midnight attack by Fulani mercenaries.

Olakpe, during an update on the crisis in Jos yesterday, told our correspondent that there were additional police personnel to further beef up security in the area.

When asked if curfew would be imposed on the affected areas, the police boss said: “That is not my mandate; I have no right to impose any curfew, I am not in the position to tell you that.”

Similarly, the member representing Bokkos constituency in the Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon. Titus Ayuba Alams, said peace had returned to the area.
