Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has commended opposition parties in the country for coming together to form one united political front, under the umbrella of All Progressive Congress (APC). In a congratulatory message, he sent on the occasion of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s 61st birthday, Abubakar lauded efforts by opposition parties which gave rise to a merger, describing it as an important step in the right direction.
According to him, “The merger of a number of opposition parties, which gave rise to the All Progressive Congress, is therefore, an important step in the right direction. A strong and viable opposition party is critical for the deepening and survival of democracy”.

He noted that this year’s annual Bola Tinubu colloquium, with the theme, “Beyond the Merger, A National Movement for Change” rightly indicates more works need to be done to make the merger work and help strengthen our democracy and improve governance in the country.
