Court Restrains Ikeja LG From Developing Airport Land

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) on Thursday got an injunction from the Federal High Court, Ikoyi restraining the Ikeja local government area from further construction on the Ikeja Airport Market, situated on a land belonging to the Murtala Muhammed Airport.
The order was sequel to a suit No. FHC/L/C8/178/2013, filed by FAAN against the council, asking the court to restrain the council from further development on the market, located adjacent to Zone D of the FAAN Staff Quarters on the Agege Motor Road, Ikeja.

The market was developed by the council some years ago. FAAN presented a paper on the alleged trespass to the Brig-Gen. Oluwole Rotimi Commission of Inquiry into Alienation of Federal Government’s Landed Property in 1999.

According to Yakubu Dati, FAAN’s general manager, corporate communications, “in its white paper report, the commission advised agency to pursue the case in court to a logical conclusion and this is what the authority hopes to achieve through the recent suit in the Federal High Court.”
