PDP, ANPP, Imo Commissioner Differ On Agbaso’s Impeachment
Stakeholders in the politics and governance of Imo State have ban reacting to the impeachment of Sir Jude Agbaso as deputy governor by the state House of Assembly. Agbaso was indicted by the House Special Ad-hoc Committee, headed by Hon Simeon Iwunze, when it investigated the abandonment of municipal roads in the three senatorial zones of Owerri, Orlu and Okigwe.
The committee discovered that Agbaso allegedly asked and collected bribes amounting to N458million from one of the contractors. But Agbaso denied the allegation.
He went to court to challenge the panel’s report so as to stop his impeachment: but failed.
Reacting to the impeachment, the Imo State chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a senior advocate of Nigeria, Mr
Eze Duruiheoma said, “My response is on two fronts - as a native and as the PDP chairman in the state. It shows instability. It does not augur well for a homogeneous people like us.
I feel pained that such a thing could happen in Imo. It has never happened since the time of the late Sam Mbakwe.
As a PDP chairman, the house of this administration is built on deceit and guile. It is on a self-destructive mission.
Before the administration comes to an end, many more heads would have rolled.
The man at the helm is a one-man show leader.”
In his reaction also, the state chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), Dr Vitalis Orikeze Ajumbe said: “The former deputy governor was misadvised to believe that he would be imposed on Governor Okorocha, even when he saw that their relationship was severed.
Which court in Nigeria can stop the impeachment of a deputy governor? He came through negotiation and left through interrogation. He should at least be grateful to Okorocha for raising his status in the society.”
