Unknown gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram militants launched another attack on Gamboru Ngala Police Station, a border town in Ngala LGA of Borno State, but the policemen on duty repelled the attack, by killing four of the suspects while five of the policemen sustained serious injuries.This brings to two the number of police stations attacked by the suspected Boko Haram sect members after President Jonathan’s visit to Borno and Yobe states.
A reliable source told our correspondent on phone that the attack occurred on Monday evening at exactly 5:33pm, when the gunmen, who came in three vehicles, launched an audacious attack on the station, firing guns and launching explosives, but the vigilant policemen fought back, killing four on the spot.
Located about 115 kilometres away from Maiduguri, Gamboru is the hometown of the former governor of Borno State, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, and shares boundaries with the Republic of Cameroon.
LEADERSHIP recalls that the town had witnessed series of attacks, killings, bombings and kidnappings in the past by suspected.
Police spokesman, DSP Gideon Jubrin, who confirmed the incident in a telephone chat with our correspondent, also noted that some of the attackers sustained injuries in the shootout.
