UniAbuja Engineering Students To Be Transferred To Other Varsities

The engineering students in the University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) are to be transferred to other universities in this year’s new academic session to complete their degrees. This was revealed to newsmen by the chairman of the staff team of the University of Abuja, Professor Chiedu Mafiana, at a press briefing held in Abuja, yesterday by the university. He stated that the faculties of Medicine and Agriculture have been accredited by the National Universities Commission and will commence academic activities when the school is reopened but that the faculty of engineering is yet to be approved. This is why they had gone into partnership with other universities so that the students in the faculty of engineering can be transferred to other universities instead of waiting indefinitely for accreditation.

All the students at the 500 level of the engineering faculty will be transferred to the Federal University of Technology, Minna to conclude their programmes but their certificates will bear the name of the University of Abuja. While those in the 300 and the 400 levels of the engineering department will be transferred to five other universities in the country. After the completion of their programmes, the certificate will be in the name of the respective universities where they studied.

The five other universities where the students will be transferred to are; the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Federal University of Technology Yola, Federal university of Technology Akure, the University of Illorin and Bayero University. Mafiana placed emphasis on the fact that those students who did not meet the requirement to be admitted into the faculty of engineering from the initial registration in the school will be given the alternative to change into other disciplines where they are more qualified. With this development, the students are expected to coperate with the university so that their education wil not be stagnanted

The Vice- chancellor of the University of Abuja, Professor James Adelabu, also announced that the second semester exams which had been postponed due to the students protest last year will commence on 18 of March. It was also revealed that the university will not commence academic activities until after the school senate has come o decision on that matter.
