Months after the embattled former chairman of the House Committee on Education and chairman of the ad-hoc committee on fuel subsidy, Farouk Lawan, was suspended as chairman of both committees for alleged involvement in bribery, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has finally stripped him of the positions.
Lawan had been suspended following allegations from businessman, Mr Femi Otedola, that the lawmaker collected thousands of dollars from him to doctor the report of the adhoc committee in favour of his companies.
Lawan was replaced by Hon Aminu Suleiman who also hails from Kano State. The deputy chairperson of the committee, Hon Rose Oko (Cross River) held brief as the interim head of the committee while the suspension lasted.
The speaker made the announcement of the replacement yesterday while reshuffling chairmen of committees in plenary.
Also replaced was the former deputy chairman of Health committee, Hon Halima Tukur (Kebbi State) who was sacked as a member of the House of Representatives by the Supreme Court following a petition against her election. She was replaced as the deputy chairman on Health by Hon Garba Guluma.
Others who are deputy chairmen are Hon Bello Kaoje, Special Duties; Hon Ibrahim Khali, Environment; Hon Jephtha Foingha, Army; Hon Bashir Babale, Labour, and Hon Akpan Micah Umoh, Public Petitions.
