Police Kill Fake Mopol Officer In Benue

Policemen in Benue State, under the platform of ‘Operation Zenda,’ have killed a suspected fake mobile police officer linked with armed robbery. The fake mobile policeman had, alongside other robbers, allegedly barricaded the Makurdi-Aliade Road, where they dispossessed passengers of their valuables. The incident, the police said, took place on Thursday night.
The police public relations officer in the state, DSP Daniel Ezeala, who confirmed the incident, told LEADERSHIP WEEKEND that policemen in the Operation Zenda squad engaged his gang in a shotout and killed one of the hoodlums.

Ezeala, who said the police acted on a tip-off, explained that men of the command had received a series of distress phone calls from some members of the public that robbers were unleashing terror on commuters on the Makurdi-Aliade Road.

He said the robbers opened fire immediately they sighted the police, adding that during the gun battle, eight of the robbers escaped into the bush while the fake officer fell to police bullets.

He further stated that the sum of N7, 000, a locally made pistol and assorted brands of handsets were found on the killed robber, and appealed to members of the public to volunteer more useful information on the fleeing robbers.
