The Katsina State command of Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has decried the rising spate of road accidents in the state and expressed worry that the state had earned for itself notoriety as a place with frequent crashes.
Speaking, yesterday, in Katsina, at a stakeholders’ conference on transportation in the state, the FRSC Sector Commander, Habu Dauda said “Katsina state is now listed among specific corridor where frequent traffic crashes occur.”
Dauda listed dangerous driving, speed violation and tyre burst as part of the major causes of road traffic crashes in the state and noted that “it is my hope and fervent prayer that this conference will come out with possible solution to this ugly development.”
The FRSC boss, who insisted that the trend was worrisome, chided motorists in the state for flagrant disobedience to traffic regulations and noted that traffic mishaps in the state were avoidable.
“The flagrant disobedience to road traffic regulations in the state, knocking down of people by motorists, mob action in some cases on security agents carrying out their legitimate duties necessitated this all important conference”
He disclosed that in three months, Katsina and its component unit commands had recorded no less than 36 fatal road crashes with over 22 people killed and no less than 120 people injured.
While lauding the state government for supporting FRSC in the discharge of its responsibilities, Dauda assured that the command would not relent in its endeavour to reduce road traffic crashes in the state.
