The Federal Government created about 1, 401,242 jobs within the last one year through the implementation of trade and investment reforms, policies and programmes, the Minister of Trade and Investment, Olusegun Aganga, has said.Aganga disclosed this during the Ministerial Session of the Fifth National Council on Trade and Investment, in Minna, on Thursday, noting that the ministry hoped to double the figure very soon.
According to the one-year score sheet of the various agencies and parastatals under the Ministry of Trade and Investment, the Bank of Industry created 1, 335, 000 jobs, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (31, 122); Onne Oil and Gas Free Zone (30, 000); Other Free Trade Zones under the Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (5,120). This gives a total of 1, 401,242 jobs.
The minister also noted that the ministry was currently executing matching programmes for Small and Medium Enterprises in collaboration with the state governments to remove the bottlenecks associated with securing collaterals and make it easier for SMEs to access loans to start or expand their businesses.
