No Hiding Place For Gun Runners In Customs – Dikko

The Comptroller-General of Customs, Abdullahi Dikko , has vowed not to harbour gun runners in the service whose activities constitute a threat to national security. He stated this in Abuja after handing over a serving Comptroller of the Service and another junior officer to operatives of the Nigeria Police over allegations of gun-running.

While announcing the suspension of the officers from the Service pending the outcome of investigations, Dikko said: “Despite the fact that the investigating officers came to my office without a warrant of arrest, I decided to produce the officers on account of the weight of the allegations against them.”

The alleged gun runner, a Comptroller in the Inspectorate Division of the NCS, Bot Jack, was fingered in an on-going investigation into illegal procurement of weapons from the Police Armoury.

The Junior Officer, Shehu Ahmed, is said to have worked with Jack then as his orderly in Minna, and is alleged to have been an accomplice in the crime.

The offence was alleged to have been committed in Minna, Niger State sometime in 2002, when Jack was an Assistant Comptroller of Customs, according to a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the Service, Wale Adeniyi.
