Ekiti-Koya commends teachers over ‘competence test’

A socio-political group in Ekiti State, Ekiti-Koya, has commended the resolve of the state teachers to stay away from the competence test examination directed by the state governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi. The commendation came in a statement issued by the spokesman of the group, Mr Bankole Adigun, who described Fayemi’s government as derailing.

The statement argued that people should be able to resist some of the decisions of governments, adding that this would establish the fact that “the power of the people is greater that the people in power.”

He argued that the competence test, otherwise known as Teachers Development Needs Assessment for Public School Teachers, was not necessary, as it was planned to witchhunt and humiliate many of the teachers.

The group recalled how Fayemi, through such a test, failed the members of National Union of Local Government Employee (NULGE) and laid them off their jobs.
