Crash exposes poor road network in Iju area of Lagos - Residents

The recent air crash involving a Dana Airline at Iju area of Lagos, has exposed poor road network in the area, as rescue teams had tough times getting to the scene of the crash. Some of the residents who spoke to Community News, lamented that poor terrain and bad roads seriously hampered efforts of the people to provide rescue operation at the crash site.

Community News learnt from the residents that the degree of casualty could have been greatly reduced if the road network in the area were perfect, as good road network would have allowed easy access to the scene.

“It is unfortunate that our area is being brought to limelight for negative reason. This area is suffering from acute neglect from the state government. Our roads are bad and that accounted for the problems encountered by rescue teams while trying to locate the crash site.

Some of the dead could have survived if the fire fighters had arrived on time. Unfortunately, poor roads prevented people from having access to the place,” Toye Dawodu, a resident told Community News.

Mr Dawodu explained that the residents would embark on head count to ascertain the number of casualty” the incident happened on sunday when people stay in door to relax with their families and children playing around the neighbourhood and some children might have been caught in the incident.”

Another residents, Lawal Bello, called on the state government to alleviate the suffering of the people by uplifting the state of roads in the area.
